Weeki Wachee

We were up early and on the road by 10:00am with only a short hour long drive, we arrived at Weeki Wachee at 11am. As soon as we got there, we ran over to the canoe rental because we were informed they quickly sell out every weekend. After luckily getting a canoe, we headed into the water for a 5.5 mile canoe ride. The water was crystal clear with different shades of blue and green. The river was like an obstacle course with winding turns, totally surrounded by palm trees and pretty flowers. Along the journey, we pulled the canoe over onto little beaches where we got out to swim. What’s interesting is no one has ever been able to discover how deep weeki wachee is. Any diver that has attempted to go to the bottom got their gear ripped off. This is because the river has such a strong current. Which is nice when we take “leisurely kayaking” to whole new level, but when we swam it was difficult at times to swim against it. We also discovered rope swings that plunged us into the clear water. We saw tons of fish, turtles and even a snake swimming. The river was so peaceful, for a while we just soaked up the sun and listen to nothing but our paddle brushing the water. After 4 hours and five and half miles, we made it to the end, where we took a shuttle back to where we started. Florida is so amazing and filled with so many awesome places. Every weekend feels like vacation! (:
